Chester's History - The Old Town Guided Tour Screenshot Gallery
The pictures on this page were taken from the 360 degree panoramic photos used in this CD-ROM. These simple little stills show the level of detail you will enjoy in our "Chester's History - The Old Town Guided Tour". Remember, what you see here is a tiny part of each scene and that there are far more scenes than the few shown below. This page acts as a screenshot tour rather than the glorious virtual tour which will be your guide around Chester.

Your tour starts next to Chester's Cross at the junction of Eastgate Street, Watergate Street and Northgate Street. This was also the area where the old Principia stood. The Principia was the most important location in a Roman camp.
The Grosvenor Arcade is not as old as it looks but there are Roman remains underneath some of the shops within.
Chester's Roman Amphitheatre is one of the highlights of our trip. Ironically only half the amphitheatre can be seen because the remains of the other half sit underneath an unused, but listed, building which prevents further excavation.
The River Dee as seen from the Old Dee Bridge.
We pass the statue of Queen Victoria in Castle Square...
before taking a little diversion down onto the world-famous Roodee horse racing course. It is hard to imagine that this area was once underwater! The Roman Quay was located where the walls overlook the circuit.
The Watergate was once a highly lucrative tolbridge.
Bonewaldesthorne's Tower is one of the most distinctive parts of the Chester City Walls.
We take a short diversion down to the Northgate locks. This is a popular location on hazy summer evenings as canal barges pass through the series of locks.
Chester's magnificent cathedral.
The Chester Rows are as appealing as they are historic.
We return to our original starting point at Chester Cross shortly after passing through the Eastgate Bridge.
