Chester's History - The Old Town Guided Tour
Due Spring 2010
Fresh on the heels of our " Chester's History - The City Walls Guided Tour", we are proud to introduce our sequel. This massive virtual tour takes you around the historic Old Town of Chester. Each of the panoramic scenes can be viewed in 'full screen' mode. Chester is a popular tourist destination in England and for good reason, the city has a recorded history which goes back to the Romans. This CD-ROM features four seperate guided tours.

Chester's History - The Old Town
Tour 1
Our first tour starts at St Peter's Cross, right in the heart of historic Chester. We head down Bridge Street, past the modern Grosvenor Arcade and on past St Olaves Church down to Bridgetate. We take a couple of diversions on our tour and get an opportunity to explore Newgate and the remains of Chester's fabulously well preserved Roman amphitheatre. The second diversion takes us to The Groves, Chester's elegant riverfront promenade.

Tour 2
Our second tour takes us up to Shipgate Street before heading past the pretty little St Mary's Church and into Castle Square. After examining the impressive statue to Queen Victoria we head across the busy road to The Roodee, Chester's famous racecourse. Whilst we walk past the uniquely shaped course we learn how the Romans used this area as a thriving harbour. Our maritime theme continues as we pass the Watergate - once one of the richest toll gates in England. Our second tour around Chester finishes just outside the historic Queen's School.

Tour 3
Our path now joins Chester's city walls and we get time to explore Bonewaldesthorne's Tower before dropping down to the Northgate Locks. We leave the walls at the Northgate and head past the famous coach house, complete with its two payment windows, one at the expected level and one for use by the poorer passengers sitting on the roofs of the coaches. Our tour finishes at the Guildhall.

Tour 4
Our final leg is just as fascinating as the others! We leave the Guildhall, briefly passing our original starting point at St Peter's Cross, before heading past Chester Cathedral on our way to Eastgate Street. Eastgate Street is the busiest one in Chester and is home to the famous Eastgate Clock. We visit the famous Chester Rows before completing our guided tours back at St Peter's Cross.
