If you have an interest in the history of Edinburgh, York, Chester or a number of other historic locations throughout the British Isles then this could well be the website for you! We hope to give our members many reasons to keep coming back to this site. On this page you will find links to some of the free resoureces which our members have access to. These will be continually added to and membership is currently free of charge and will remain free for anyone who signs up now.

Members normally receive their passwords within minutes and can access our archive of free resources.

Edinburgh history themed podcasts (many of which can be used as audio files which will let you take your own guided tour around the location covered), online galleries of archive images and specially designed free Interactive Guided Tours are available. As of June 2011, we have at least six free Interactive Guided Tours, many of them focusing on the history of Edinburgh and York, and we've got a lot planned for our members! These aren't demo or 'lite' versions of our other work, we've got some pretty cool 'stand alone' tours lined up for you.

Our Interactive Guided Tours are a combination of a few things...and, we believe, an improvement on all of them! Easier to follow than a guidebook, more detailed than a traditional 'virtual tour' and more interactive than a DVD, our software makes a perfect addition to any history lover's collection.

Informative text and accompanying audio brings each of our 360 degree images to life. Chose where you want to look, up, down, left or right, you can let your mouse do the walking as you savour some of the most popular historic towns in the UK.

Many of our free Interactive Guided Tours come with archive images which let you take a mental step back into the past as you see how everyday streets once looked.

Our podcast series compliments some of our Interactive Guided Tours. Our first series looked into the backstory of the famous Edinburgh 'bodysnatchers' Burke and Hare. This series takes you around some of the old Edinburgh locations which would have been familiar to the two Irishmen and the real bodysnatchers... Burke and Hare, as far as we know, never dug up a corpse! This tells of a very dark side to the history of Edinburgh.

At Actual Education we find 'then and now' images really fascinating. There's something very powerful about standing in a place and seeing what exactly the same place once looked like, which is why we have built up a considerable archive of old Edinburgh, York and Chester images. We can't take you back in time physically but thes images give us a peek into the history of Edinburgh and more.
