If we could have any author to write an Edinburgh guidebook for us it would be John Kay. Kay might not have spent pages looking at the buildings on and around the Royal Mile but he certainly captured a piece of Edinburgh's history which allows us to imagine what life in the capital was once like. John was a barber and charicaturist who produced wonderful images of many of Enlightenment Edinburgh's most famous and bizarre people. When we say bizarre we really do mean it! His charicatures, and the accompaying stories, give his work a 'gossip column' feel to it which thrived on the habits of some of Edinburgh's stranger characters.

Let this tour bring some of the history of Edinburgh to life as we introduce you
John Kay's Royal Mile!

This is a unique Interactive Guided Tour, even by our standards, as it takes you around the Old Town locations and events in Edinburgh's history where you would have found these fascinating characters.

Full screen panoramas, copies of the actual Kay's images and video clips all combine to give you a really different 'take' on the typical Edinburgh tour. Each location features one of Kay's characters in the places they would have been seen in. This has to be one of the
most intruguing old Edinburgh tours!

The Scottish Enlightenment saw Edinburgh become one of the most socially fascinating places in the United Kingdom. Until the creation of the New Town, the different social classes worked, played and lived in relative close proximity. Women were far more liberated than in other more genteel towns.

Why not visit some of the most interesting and unusual old Edinburgh residents with this virtual tour?

You'll meet all types of character, from
drunken church ministers to violent criminals as we take you down the Royal Mile, using John Kay's charicatures to introduce you to the people from Edinburgh's past.

Explore the Royal Mile and learn about some of its strangest characters with this innovative 'virtual walking tour' of Edinburgh.

Take a trip back in time and let John Kay, and this guided tour of Edinburgh, take you by the hand and introduce you to some
fascinating and quirky Old Towners!

We're so glad you want to learn more about this exciting software! This tour isn't quite ready yet and we're working hard to complete it sometime in 2011.

We do have lots of work done and you can see a scene from this project by clicking the link below. It may not have text on it, and will almost certainly not have sound but rest assured that both (and some nice extras) will be included in the final tour.
