Chambers Street - Cowgate - Old Fishmarket Close - Parliament Close - The Old Tolbooth - The High Kirk of St Giles' - The High Street - Advocate's Close - Cockburn Street - Warriston's Close
The third leg of your historic Edinburgh attractions takes 23 different scenes around the Old Town.
The tour leaves Greyfriars Bobby and Candlemaker Row behind us as you pass the fabulous Museum of Scotland as we head along Chambers Street. The Museum is well worth a visit if you are in the capital as it is one of the best museums in the country. You come off Chambers Street and return to the Cowgate. This was once one of the Old Town's most sophisticated residences and the tour takes you to where Sympson's quaint little printers shop stood.
As you climb back up Old Fishmarket Close you learn about the 'Lang Siege' of Edinburgh Castle and how this little Close was once the scene of one of the tragedies during this turbulent time.
Just outside the High Kirk of St Giles' you will see where the Old Tolbooth sat and we get a chance to find out about this famous and infamous little building.
Your tour then turns off Fishmarket Close and find ourselves next to the High Kirk of St Giles'. Inside St Giles' you see the tomb of James Graham, Marquis of Montrose and the statue of John Knox. This is absolutely free to enter, although you may be asked to pay a small fee should you wish to take any photographs.
You then head down Advocates Close. Although open on one side now, our archive images let us imagine what this would have been like in seventeenth century Edinburgh. It is a long descent to the bottom of the Close and we're fortunate to be taking a 'virtual tour' when you're faced next with the imposing climb up Warriston's Close at the end of this leg of your Edinburgh tour.

We learn of the story of Greyfriars Bobby and visit the sites of his grave and his owner. We also see his statue, the most photographed statue in Scotland!
The steep climb up Fishmarket Close reminds us of the 'Crag and Tail' geographical feature which forms the basis for the Old Town of Edinburgh.
St Giles' Cathedral, more properly known as the High Kirk of St Giles, is featured in this guided tour. We visit the monument to James Graham, Marquis of Montrose and learn about his life and execution, including the use of his head as one of the more macabre Edinburgh attractions from days of old!
