Robert Burns, the 'Ploughman Poet', is one of Scotland's most famous people. Although an Ayrshire man through and through, Burns spent some time in Scotland's historic Capital city.

This unique Interactive Guided Tour takes you around the places which played an important role in Robert Burns' visits to Edinburgh. Some of the places you will see have changed beyond recognition whilst some would possibly be recognised by Burns if he revisited today!

This carefully planned Robert Burns' Edinburgh tour will make a great addition to any fans of Scotland's national bard. If you have a love of historic Edinburgh this guided tour is a great way to explore Scotland's capital city during one of its most important periods.

You shall find out about Robert's admiration for the tragic poet Robert Fergusson (the man who coined the famous term 'Auld Reekie' for smokey Edinburgh). This tour takes you to Fergusson's grave in Canongate Kirkyard and also visit the graveside of 'Clarinda' - a woman with whom Robert Burns fell in love. You also explore the Potterrow area of Edinburgh where she lived. You'll 'meet' more than one Edinburgh lady who the poet admired on this Robert Burns' Edinburgh tour!

The tour takes you to
Anchor Close, home to William Smellie and his printing works. Smellie also printed the first edition of the Encycolpaedia Britannica. The tour takes you to Smellie's graveside in Greyfriars Kirkyard and in the tomb to Patrick Miller of Dalswinton who is also buried here (he provided financial support for the cash-strapped Burns) as well as William Creech, the man who published some of Burns' work.

Whilst much of Edinburgh's historic Old Town has changed over the past two hundred years, there is still enough to give us a flavour of what life in late-eighteenth century Edinburgh was like.

The
Scottish Enlightenment was one of the most fascinating periods in Edinburgh's history and this Interactive Guided Tour takes you around the heart of the Old Town today, as it reveals a little of what Edinburgh was like during Robert's time here. This Burns themed Edinburgh guided tour will take you on a unique exploration of Scotland's historic capital city. Although some locations have featured on some of our other historic virtual tours, there are hundreds of stories for each place and this historic Edinburgh virtual tour guides you so that you can follow in the footsteps of one of history's greatest poets.
