Castlehill - The Mound - Mylne's Court - The Lawnmarket - James Court - Lady Stair's Close - The Lawnmarket - Riddle's Court - Deacon Brodie - The High Street - Libberton's Wynd - The Cowgate - Greyfriars Kirkyard - Greyfriars Kirk - George IV Bridge
The second leg of your sightseeing in Edinburgh tour takes in 22 different scenes.
You continue our sightseeing in Edinburgh's Old Town by heading off the Castlehill and learning a little about the 'Crag and Tail' geological formation which literally shaped the city's history.
It soon becomes clear just how significant this is as you head up the steep climb of the lower section of Mylne's Close. In the Close you discover how packed the city had become by the seventeenth century and how the famous Scottish masons of the Mylne family had attempted to improve the quality of life by building a this pretty little courtyard.
The Lawnmarket is your next location and here you learn the history of this part of the Royal Mile before diving into James Court where we see Lady Stair's Close and it's firebrand.
The Lawnmarket has been fairly wide open at this point but you soon discover how difficult it was to get a bit of personal space when we head into Riddle's Court and learn how much of a status symbol a private courtyard was. This is definitely the 'better part' of the Old Town because this place was once visited by King James VI and his wife!
You move down the 'Crag and Tail' slope of the Royal Mile and cross George IV Bridge where we see the site of the third execution spot on our Edinburgh tour.
Libberton's Wynd was swept away when George IV Bridge was built but you'll still be able to learn about some of it's important features. Half way down the wynd there was a small tavern owned by John Dowie. Dowie's Tavern was frequented by the 'Ploughman Poet' Robert Burns. Dowie's was famous for its food and you will discover that it was used for a very strange meal by Town Council officials...
We turn off the Royal Mile and head along George IV Bridge before dropping down (literally - this is a 'virtual tour' after all!) into the Cowgate. A quick visit into the Magdalen Chapel sets us up nicely for a visit to the nearby Greyfriars Kirk and it's famous burial ground.
We leave Greyfriars and finish our tour next to the world-famous statue of Greyfriars Bobby. The little monument to the devoted Skye Terrier is Scotland's most photographed statue!

The Protestant reformer John Knox played an important part in the history of Edinburgh and he features frequently on your guided tour of old Edinburgh. We see the John Knox House, the site of the house where Knox really lived and the High Kirk of St Giles in this Interactive Guided Tour.
We visit many closes and wynds on our travels. These steps take us into Mylne's Close in the Lawnmarket.
We pay visits to the Magdalen Chapel, the High Kirk of St Giles and, as seen here, Greyfriars Kirk. Sightseeing in Edinburgh continues in our next tour around the Old Town...
